CONSTRUCTION ACCESSIBILITY

An increasingly current issue is accessibility in construction. It is fundamental and has several rules. The ABNT regulation establishes criteria and technical parameters to be observed regarding the design, construction, installation and adaptation of the urban environment and accessible developments.

General conditions are pointed out considering aspects for use, with safety and autonomy of the spaces. This guidance covers the creation of environments that can be used by people with disabilities, individuals with different stature, obesity or with reduced mobility.

The standard presents, for example, heights recommended for different types of commands and controls, such as switches, bells and intercoms, aiming at comfortable use by people with special needs.

According to the legislation, the approval, licensing or issuance of a certificate of completion of an architectural or urban project must be attested if the compliance with the accessibility rules in construction provided for in the ABNT technical standards is verified. This is required for obtaining or renewing the business license.

How does accessibility inspection in construction work?

This inspection is carried out by the Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy – Crea in the Technical Responsibility Annotation of projects, and by the bodies responsible for licensing, issuing a certificate of architectural, urban planning and facilities and equipment, and licensing or issuing a certificate of completion. of work or service.
