PLASTER OR PARGET: WHAT IS BETTER TO USE?

There are many alternatives of materials and methods used in civil construction. Therefore, those who intend to build may find it difficult to choose the best option.

When it comes to wall finishing, there are two more frequent alternatives: ordinary parget, with cement paste, and plaster, which has been widely used in replacing the parget.

Ordinary coating

It is the most widely used method and uses traditional materials such as cement and sand. It has the advantage of being more resistant, including water, and can be applied internally and externally, in addition to being very durable.

The disadvantage lies with the final cost, since it also involves spackling to fix the wall and painting.

Plaster

The use of plaster as a substitute for common parget is an alternative indicated for many cases and has some advantages, such as speed of application, time savings, possible cost reduction and good wall finish.

Adding plaster with DRYKOFIX CHAPISCO helps to improve the impermeability of the material, making it more resistant to water. But choosing plaster still requires care, as it is a very sensitive material to water. So it should be used in dry places and well protected against humidity, rain and other forms of contact with water. That is, it cannot be applied to external walls nor can it be washed. What’s more, plaster is less resistant than ordinary parget.

The use of one or the other finish on the wall depends on many factors that must be considered in the design.
